Thandai Powder with Thandai recipe

Come spring, and the first thing I think of making is this Thandai Powder. Its rich, refreshing and full of health benefits. This recipe makes a perfect drink to celebrate Holi, Shivratri and to bring in spring.


This powder is packed with rich nutrients from dry nuts and fragrant spices. Its gluten-free, vegetarian and super addictive! Scroll down to check this easy to make, homemade recipe.


Ingredients


  • 1/4 cup fennel seeds

  • 1 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar (Grind around 2 cups of sugar to make powdered sugar)

  • 1/3 cup almonds

  • 1/4 cup pistachio

  • 3 tsp elaichi powder/ 4 whole elaichi seeds

  • 1 tsp poppy seeds (optional)

  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg powder

  • 1 tbsp melon seeds (chaar magaz)

  • 1/2 tsp saffron strands (optional)



Instructions

  • Transfer Almonds, Melon Seeds, cardamom seeds, Fennel Seeds, Pistachios, Poppy Seeds, and Black Peppercorns to a mixer.

  • Ground the spices to a fine powder.

  • Add nutmeg powder and sugar to the mix.

  • Transfer the Thandai mix into an airtight container and store it in the fridge for a longer shelf life. This mix stays fresh for 2 months in the fridge.




How to make Thandai?

Ingredients


  • 4 1/2 cups of milk (you can opt for almond milk for vegan alternative)

  • 5 tbsp of thandai powder

  • 2 tsp saffron strands for garnish (optional)


Instructions


  • Bring the milk to a boil and add thandai powder and let it cool down.

  • Cover the milk and let it cool for atleast 4 hours before serving.

  • Cooling the thandai overnight brings out the best flavors.

  • While pouring thandai, pour it through a sieve to make the thandai fine and smooth.
